Online gaming group Bwin.party Digital Entertainment PLC has been a staple in the industry for a very long time.
Operating out of Gibraltar it is a leading force in the industry with a strong presence in online poker and online sports betting. The company is looking to move into US territory very soon. According to an article I read in the WSJ, Bwin.party is making a strong push towards getting legislation passed by the US Government regarding online gambling bills.
CEO Jim Ryan says they are trying the hardest in New Jersey, California and Florida currently. When jurisdiction is finally decided all other states are assumed to follow suit.
There are no current federal laws prohibiting online gambling, there are however state by state ordinances. States such as Utah want nothing whatsoever to do with gambling; while its neighbor Nevada is the front runner when it comes to legalizing vices.
Bwin.party is actually in the works trying to rescue Full Tilt Poker. Even after the recent indictment in April, Bwin.party sees potential there and is looking forward to getting the casino site back on top.
There are several meetings and voting going on right now, and these decisions will continue to be discussed for a while. One thing that seems to be apparent is that no one really wants to make a decision; they are too engulfed in issues such as healthcare, unemployment and the economy.
Now the only thing to do is wait, and hope. It seems that change is going to come sooner or later; I just hope it’s sooner rather than later.
