The online casino industry has been in the news quite a bit recently and that is for many reasons. It started gaining attention earlier this year when there was an online poker scandal involving three of the biggest poker rooms in the country.
Since then there has been a lot of push to get gambling regulated online so another instance like this does not happen. This also would create many opportunities such as employment, tax money, and money for various charities.
I was reading an article in the new york times about this issue and it highlighted many points about the two bills that are on the table, and why it is taking so long to get them passed.
For as many supporters there are for online gambling regulation, there are far more advocates against such regulation. Groups like Focus on the Family feel that putting a federal stamp of approval on online wagering will start the deterioration of mankind as we know it.
It is after all the “Only industry on earth that is clamoring for the US Government to impose regulations,” says online poker enthusiast, Bradley Cole.
It’s not just poker, it’s craps, blackjack, slot machines, roulette, etc. everyone wants to play their game safely on the internet without worrying that the domain they occupy won’t be seized by the government eventually.
Another reason is the Government feels that there are far more important issues to deal with rather than online wagering. They have unemployment, healthcare, and the economy to deal with first.
